What you will enjoy doing
- Manually sort incoming PET materials (e.g., bottles, containers) from other types of plastic, metals, or non-recyclable items on the sorting line.
- Ensure that only high-quality PET feedstock is selected for the recycling process.
- Identify and remove contaminants such as labels, caps, metals, and other non-PET materials to maintain the quality of sorted feedstock.
- Separate materials by type to ensure that recycling and disposal are done correctly.
- Operate basic sorting equipment like conveyors and ensure they are functioning correctly.
- Work as part of a team to meet daily sorting goals and ensure a continuous supply of sorted feedstock to the production lines.
- Keep the sorting area clean and organized by removing waste and debris, ensuring that walkways and workstations remain safe and free from obstructions.
- Dispose of waste materials appropriately, following plant waste management guidelines.
- Follow all plant safety protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, safety glasses, and high-visibility clothing.
- Report any safety hazards or incidents to the supervisor immediately.
- Assist with loading, unloading, and transporting materials to and from the sorting area as needed.
- Ensure that sorted materials are delivered to the appropriate areas on time to support continuous production flow.
- Track the quantity and quality of sorted materials, documenting any issues or trends related to feedstock quality.
- Flexibly move between different sorting tasks or assist in other areas of the plant as needed, such as feedstock handling or machine operation.
What makes you great
- Matric or equivalent preferred.
- Experience in a recycling, waste management, or manufacturing environment is an advantage, but not required.
- Basic understanding of different materials (PET plastics, metals, other plastics) is a plus.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to quickly identify contaminants.
- Physical ability to stand for long periods, bend, lift, and sort materials manually.
- Willingness to work in shifts, including early mornings, evenings, or weekends based on production schedules.
